About Us

Who we are

Mecovi, born from the visionary ideals of its founder Emilia Ebule, embodies a profound commitment to equality and empowerment. Emilia's personal journey, fueled by a deep connection to a loved one grappling with visual impairment, ignited a transformative mission within her. This intimate experience spurred Emilia to dedicate her life to caring for her close relative, catalyzing a profound empathy that steered her towards academic pursuits.

Driven by her passion and empathy, Emilia pursued a a Ph.D. in Sociology at UGent University in Belgium. Her academic endeavors culminated in a research focus on analyzing employment opportunities for young individuals with visual impairments in the city of Bamenda and its environs. Emilia's research project delves into the perceptions of various stakeholders - the visually impaired, their families, members of society, and employers - regarding employment prospects for individuals with visual impairments.

Employing methodological approaches such as participation, observation, interviews, and life histories in the North West Region of Cameroon, Emilia seeks to unravel the intricate experiences of visually impaired individuals in their pursuit of employment. Her study aims to unearth the challenges hindering employment opportunities for this demographic, with a commitment to validating findings through on-site verification, organizing seminars/workshops to foster stakeholder collaboration, and producing a documentary capturing the ground realities.

Emilia's unwavering dedication extends beyond academia; her fervor for supporting orphans and the visually impaired has blossomed into an empowerment center. This center serves as a beacon of hope, guiding visually impaired individuals and orphans towards acceptance in a sometimes unwelcoming world. By providing exposure to opportunities and highlighting the inherent strengths that visual impairment can bring to other facets of life, Emilia's initiative at Mecovi stands as a testament to her enduring commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
